Under Age Drinking

1)The percentage of 8Th graders using alcohol is 48% in Sussex and 41% in national use. The percentage of 10Th graders is 73% for Sussex and 63% for national.

2)I learned that the older the students get the more they abuse using alcohol. The older they become the more they experiment with the use of alcohol during their years as a student at parties.

3)The issue with under age drinking is that it becomes a habit and they keep till they can drive. When they can drive they abuse it more because they can drive to go get it instead of getting it from parents or friends. Teens feel the need to drink because they get it for a depressant or need it because they heard friends talk about it because of the peer pressure.

1) My opinion is that some people grow up to quickly because they might know more about the world when they were young.

2) An average kids life they don't get beat up like Gerald does. Maybe some parents kid around when they hit their children, but Gerald's mom and stepfather abuse him by punching him in the face or burning him with a liter, but do you see people do this in our day?

3) C- I had a lot of difficult situations like when I was in the Wantage school. My friend Tim and I were walking to go to the bathroom. When saw Nick was talking to Travis who had something
in the bathroom stall.Nick was getting mad so he jumped up to see what Travis had, but was a little short to see over the stall. So then he finally kicked the door in and their was a loud slam.

Teachers came to see what is was and told us to get to class, but when we got to our class the teacher yelled at us and asked what happened, but she said il talk to you four later.
Then when the class was over our teacher told the four of us to stay after to tell her what happened before we could go to recess. When Travis started talking he said "That Nick kicked the door in on him because he got mad at Travis". Their was a lot of arguing, but I said that Nick and Travis were talking and Nick wanted to know what Travis had.
When I finished talking the teacher said I could go to recess, but you said" I'm not going till Tim comes too." She said I could go but i told her that me and Tim didn't do anything. So the teacher let us go and I told Tim I couldn't believe we got out of their and we felt kinda bad for Nick, but then we had fun at recess.

Chapter 7 response

I just got home from school and we got our drive way paved. My mom cam home and she told us we couldn't walk on the pavement because it was still wet. Then we had to take our dogs out from the front of our house by the road. When we walked past the pavement we got to the back of my house and we were going to put our dogs in our back yard. They bolted and dragged my sister and when that happened my black dog Storm ran first and Saber followed him. They ran acroos the road, but saber got hit by a truck. When we say my brother cole ran across the street and then i followed. When my dad got home two minutes llater we got water bottles and toke saber and put him in the van. When we got to my dad's shop saber was dead.
When he died I was so sad it is hard to explain my feelings when it happened.
When Geralds aunt died you can tell the feelings that you have for them. When you lose somthing you know that you want to get somthing to replace that.

Child Abuse Statistics

2005 National and New York State Child Abuse Statistics 2005 Child Abuse and Neglect Fact Sheet (PDF)
Reports and number of children In 2005, 64,207 New York State children were abused or neglected, approximately 14 of every 1,000 children in the state. The NYS Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (the Child Abuse Reporting Hotline) received 139,169 reports of suspected child abuse or neglect, involving 185,819 children. Upon investigation, 42,169 (31 percent) were substantiated as situations of child abuse and neglect. (There are more child victims than reports, because more than one child is involved in some cases.) Compared to the prior year, the number of reports decreased by 1.1; the number of substantiated cases decreased by 1.2 percent; the number of child victims decresed 16 percent.

In New York State in 2005, 75 children are known to have died as a result of child abuse and neglect, a fatality rate of 1.65 per 100,000 children.
Nationwide in 2005, 1,460 children died of abuse or neglect in the 50 states that reported information; that is, almost 2 children for every 100,000 in the population. Children younger than one year old accounted for 31.8 percent of fatalities and 76.6 percent of fatalities were younger than four years old
